Fifth Summer
Different Bar each night with open bar allows for interns to
meet, drink, play
NEW YORK - Intern Bar, New York's first and original bar series for
summer interns is back for another exciting summer to help interns
answer the question, "What are we going to do tonight?". Each
Friday and Saturday throughout the summer, Intern Bar is held with
an open bar at a different bar or lounge open exclusively to Intern
Bar members. Here, the guests can connect with other interns their
age, drink for free, and enjoy the greatest city on
earth.
"There are so many places to go in NYC," says founder Zak
Tanjeloff, now 25, "Intern Bar helps to pick the best places and
then make them accessible to all the interns - and use the power of
the group to get great drink specials and open bars"
This is the fifth summer Intern Bar has operated in New York City.
During that time, more than 30,000 interns have attended events.
Last year, InternBar.com was launched; a social network which helps
facilitate the bar series and allows interns to communicate and
interact away from the events.
Intern Bar evolved out of something called Senior Bar - a spring
tradition at Tanjeloff's college. Each night during his final
semester, the senior class would designate one bar as Senior Bar,
so that the whole class new where to find everyone. Intern Bar
works similarly - picking the bar so that the interns will know
where to go to find everyone else, which is especially important in
New York given the breadth and diversity of hang out spots.
Each weekend event has an open bar for at least an hour. There is a
nominal $5 cover for each event, or guests can become a paid member
for $10/month and never have to pay cover. In addition to their
normal weekend events, Intern Bar is also planning special events
such as pool parties, beer pong tournaments, art exhibits and
more.
